Hydrocephalus Awareness Month Post

Today is the fifth day of Hydrocephalus Awareness Month, and tonight I watched the movie Miracle In Lane 2 which is based on a true story about a guy named Justin Yoder who was born with Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida. This story is something that people need to see. I loved it, and it's such a good movie. Yes as I've mentioned already that I have some learning disabilities and I have Hydrocephalus, but what I know from this movie is that people like me and not, do not give up and they keep trying. In this movie the child actor at the time who played Justin Yoder, was Frankie Muniz and I must say that he did a very good job telling the real Justin Yoder's story. I don't want to give too much away of the movie, because then no one would watch it. I will say this, a clip I shared in one of my posts, and what I mentioned is all still very true, because you never know what can happen with a shunt. What I mean by that is, a shunt can malfunction, and it get infected. So when it starts malfunctioning, then it needs replaced. Justin Yoder has had more surgeries than I have, which that is going to be explained throughout this movie when you watch it. People can pass away from Hydrocephalus and others are survivors who keep living and doing things to enjoy life. I can not drive a car because of what has happened and even if I could, it wouldn't be good because if I had a seizure while driving I would be swerving all over the road, and crashing, not evening knowing because my seizures don't stop on their own, they stop with medicine that my parents have to give me, in order for me to come out of them. If no one stopped to help me or no one called for help, then I would pass away. Which to me is a little scary to think about, because that's kind of the question I ask myself if I could drive who would stop to help stop the car, who would help me and get me the medical attention that I needed? I do however drive a golf cart which is like my own car, because I don't need a license to drive in my neighborhood and I can drive knowing that I don't have to worry about busy highways. I also don't have very good balance, so I can't ride a two wheel bike like most people in this world who can. Instead I ride a three wheel bike because I can change the gears on my bike so that if I want to start off slow, I leave it on one. If I want to go a little fast, I change it to two and if I want to go at a better speed of very fast then I can change it to three. I also have trouble with making friends, and I would say I have two great friends who I talk to but I know that it's still hard for me to find people who have Hydrocephalus of where I live. I once told you in a post that Hydrocephalus stands for water on the brain, and that's true it does. One person I read about had gone through, I want to say 121 brain surgeries and for me to go through only three, I can say I'm blessed and grateful. I do pray for those who keep going through more surgeries and those who have had more than me, because I can't even begin to imagine what it is like for them to have to go through that. No one should have to go through that many but they do. September is Hydrocephalus Awareness Month and It Matters. Tell someone you know, so they can want to learn about it too.
