Hydrocephalus Awareness Month Photo

Today is the third day of Hydrocephalus Awareness Month and I would like to share a photo of what a person who has normal ventricles versus those who have swollen ventricles. You see people without Hydrocephalus don't need a shunt because the ventricles are not swollen, however that is not the case for those living with Hydrocephalus. The doctors need to relieve the pressure off of the brain and in order to do that, a shunt has to be put in. I've had 3 brain surgeries and one open heart surgery. Which I'll be happy to tell you of the story about my third brain surgery of what had happened with my shunt for another day. Right now, I just want to help you learn about how doctors help treat people like me, so that we can have some of the pressure that was building too much fluid relived by having a shunt put in. Hydrocephalus stands for water on the brain. It doesn't have a cure, because the only treatment like I've mentioned already is having the shunt put in. It's important to me that people learn about Hydrocephalus because so many people do not know what it is. It's one of those conditions that isn't common, because it's almost like and is like it's invisible because people may think well I can't see it, so how can it be real if I can't see it? Well it is real, I mean if you look at any story of someone's from across the world or you read an article about how a baby has enlarged ventricles, because their brain is building up too much fluid and pressure, well then that pressure has to be relieved and the only way it's going to happen, is by having brain surgery. This is Hydrocephalus Awareness Month, and while there are a lot of other things going on during this month as well for something else, I'm hoping that today and everyday you'll continue to learn something new about Hydrocephalus. I'm being an advocate by doing my best to help all of you learn something different each day and I'm also trying my best to let all of you know why this month is so important to me, and why I think you should learn about Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a real condition, and those going through it just like me, are never alone because we have each other and our families, and friends who support us. We also know that God still has a plan for all of us, and no matter what we go through we know He created us this way for a reason, and no matter if we don't the reason or plan for our lives, He knows. If you haven't told anyone what this month is about, let them know that you're learning about something new, help them to also want to learn about Hydrocephalus, so they can tell others too.

    1. Thank you so much for the comment. It means a lot to me that you have learned something, and I hope you continue to learn more each day. I don't do these posts for fun, I do them because I like to do them but I also like to educate them on something that I just like many others are living with. I'm glad you're learning about Hydrocephalus, and I'm glad the explanation and diagram has helped you as well. For me to do my best and try to write something new each day, is a little hard at times because I don't want to share the same thing, but I like trying to write about a topic like this one, because it's important that I help spread awareness to those who don't know, and to those who do.
